The Threat to Tradtional Marriage, per Kieran Healy

Illocutionary Vegas Act If Britney Spears were gay, I suppose this would be an excellent example of the kind of thing that’s ruining the institution of marriage.
I've written about civil unions and gay marriage before: The AFA poll; The Campaign for Civil Marriage (There are a couple of others, but I can't find them).

Gay marriage isn't a threat to the family. The concept of "I deserve to be happy" is a threat. The concept of the "disposable spouse"--"that one didn't work out, I'll get another" is a threat to the family. The concept that sexual gratification is a inalienable right is a threat to the family. Feh, don't get me started.

Oh, Ms. Bigarmwoman is back from vacation, and the first thing she talks about is Britney's little stunt.

And Getupgrrrl has a long, funny diatribe on Britney and the plot to destroy marriage. Also read comments, which are quite funny.

If you've been watching the news, then you know by now that gays and lesbians are single-handedly responsible for the destruction of the institution of marriage. I must say, I'm quite relieved. I was under the impression that feminists were single-handedly responsible for the destruction of the institution of marriage. Whew! Glad we dodged that bullet! Thanks for taking the hit for the team, gays and lesbians!
