First Year Teacher Resigns

First Year Teacher publishes her resignation letter.

It is a doozy.  In her (former) district in Chapel Hill, North Carolina,  demographic change means there are more Hispanic students than previously.  They aren't thriving, and  teacher attitude holds a key:

Also, please discipline teachers and staff who have made horribly racist statements to these kids or about these kids. I am still shaken by the fact that a teacher had an argument with one of our girls and when she left he turned to a group of white students and said, "I would stick my foot up her ass but I don't want it coming out smelling like tacos." I am even more shaken that nothing was done about it and, in fact, he was named Teacher of the Year.

That is just the tip of the iceberg.

I read about the letter Chez Coturnix, with this post.
