There are some programs that auto-install the Ask.com toolbar, even on Macs. That may be what happened to you. I'm guessing it probably *is* their fault. I hate their toolbar the most of all of them, and it sneaks in where I least expect it, like during an installation of Nero DVD-burning software.

I don't use other toolbars for searches - it's far easier for me to set
http://www.google.com/search?q=%s
as a bookmark with the keyword 'g'. Then I can search anything I want by typing "g whatever" into the address bar.

Also works for Wikipedia, Dictionary.com, Thesauraus.com, and a host of others...
