Here are Meryl Dorey's claims, made September 22, 2011 on the Australian Vaccination Network Facebook page (image and link at the bottom of the post).
Vaccine Refusal: How To Respond To a Growing Problem-Paul Offit perjury-states no financial interest in vax
He sold his share for many millions of dollars (he would not say how much but estimates range from 6-15 million and there are ongoing payments that could total another 19 million by 2019).
The short answer is that Dr. Offit is not perjuring himself and he does not receive "ongoing payments" of any amount from the RotaTek patent.
Let's look at the facts.
In this post, Dorey is referring to this excellent presentation at the 2010 Infectious Diseases in Children Symposium, which I highly recommend. In fact, I have to thank Ms. Dorey for bringing it to my attention.
In the first slide, Dr. Offit states that he has "No relevant financial relationships to disclose," and he repeats that phrase orally.
The RotaTeq patent was sold by The Children's Hospital Foundation effective October 1, 2007. Dr. Offit and his co-inventors recieved compensation as a part of that sale at some point after April 27, 2007. David N. Brown published an exhaustive discussion of the facts on the sale of RotaTeq on December 22, 2009.
Dr. Offit has also stated, on January 5, 2011:
Just for the record: I no longer financially benefit from the sales of RotaTeq. My financial interests in that vaccine have been sold out by either The Wistar Institute, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, or me. I will, however, continue to stand up for the science of vaccines because unfounded fears about vaccines have hurt children. That is why I do what I do and why I have always done it. And I will continue to closely follow the distribution of rotavirus vaccines because these vaccines have the potential to save as many as 2,000 children a day, which is why I joined the research team at Children's Hospital.
So the facts have been available at a minimum since January 2011, and arguably since December 22, 2009. Why is Dorey continuing to lie about Offit?
