For the last couple of weeks, I've been mostly going out for meals. It is a long story of no interest.
Anyway, I was at the MegaMart this afternoon, and spotted a 1.5 pound bag of fingerling potatoes. I bought them, I scrubbed them, and I steamed them over water scented with bay leaves and onion powder.
I ate them hot two ways: with just a brush of butter and lemon, and then another set with a bead of store-bought mayonnaise* and a grind of fresh 3-color pepper.
Both were delicious.
The remainder went in the refrigerator to chill and do fun things with tomorrow, like dill-cumin yoghurt.
Boiling fingerlings makes the little ones soggy and the big ones still kind of...crisp. Steaming is the perfect answer.
*yes, I can make mayonnaise, and for some applications it is superior. But we are talking tastes of childhood here, and only Best Foods will do.
