England Chronicles #2 Divided by a Common Language (Temporal Version)

I don't know if it is England, Cambridge, or just the various food venues we've visited, but something's chapping my hide.

The tempo of the restaurant service.

This morning, we sat down for breakfast.  The hostess person brought coffee cups over....but it was almost 15 minutes later before the carafe of coffee arrived.

Yesterday, we were seated for lunch, and the meals (nothing fancy, a ploughman's and two different types of salad) took 20 minutes from ordering to delivery.

It is just a different rhythm, I think, but it grates against my American training or expectations.  Jumper Girl and I decided that we'll be timing things, in the future, and see when we get impatient.

Stand by for further anthropological details.

England Chronicles #1

Made it safely to Heathrow, found Jumper Girl, and made it to our coach from Heathrow to Cambridge.

Met Scholar Woman -- she is lovely and delightful.  I'm impressed with her ability to meet numerous new relations.

Off to the rehearsal dinner in a few minutes.

I may or may not be able to upload photographs from this connection.  But photos are indeed promised.

Aaaaand Ooooofffff We Go

Off to observe Scholar Man & Scholar Woman's Nuptials.   Maybe I'll blog while I'm gone, maybe I won't.

See you on the 21st.

Continuous Frustration

AT&T did something so that I can't send or receive email from ponytrax@batnet.com, the email address I've had since 1996.  Until I can get that straightened out, if you want to email me, try lizditz@gmail.com

I am not looking forward to the electronic side effects of moving -- getting new phone numbers, moving DirectTV, etc.

Update: all hail Nationwide Internet.  It took two phone calls, but the various problems were ironed out.

Long Talk

I was walking out the door to meet the rest of the Bad Moms when the darling daughter called, wanting to talk over her course selection for next fall and asking my advice about a professor that she's having a bit of trouble with.

Ninety minutes later we said goodbye.

I'm lucky to have such a good kid.

Wolf Hybrid Under the Porch

Wolfhybridbitch I share my Idaho house with my sister.   Presidents' Week she was in residence, and discovered a dog believed to be a wolf-hybrid under the back deck.  With puppies.  Sis reports that the dog didn't just "growl" but came after her.  The dog and the puppies were removed to the local animal shelter.

The good follow-up news is that the canid family has found a foster home in Montana, courtesy of Wolfdog Rescue Resources

Panicked DeCluttering and Cleaning

Having purchased this future cutie, I had not planned to put the current casa on the market until after school's done.  But evidently there's somebody who really is hot to buy the joint, and wants to tour the house on Monday.  AIIIeeeeeee!

Why I'm Busy

Casa_suenos(click to see a bigger image)

I bought the next Casa Dreams, about 3 miles northeast of  my current house.  It is less than a third of the size of the current house (the goal -- downsizing).  That means I've got to get serious about selling this one, which (as any seller knows) involves a lot of work.   Move date is uncertain -- mid-summer?  Later?  Don't know. There are a few interior things that have to be done before we move in (bye-bye, cottage-cheese ceilings, hello crown molding and paint).   Further cutification will be planned over the summer.

Attention, Friends in the UK

I'll be in Cambridge from May 7 to May 11 -- then where?  Jumper Girl and I are compiling places to go, people to see.

May 7 to 11 will be pretty much taken up with nuptial festivities, so if you are far from Cambridge, not so good.

This Cracks Me Up

Remember these people?

Photo from Jumper Girl's graduation: Hsgrad_nbros

The fellow on the right (Scholar Man)  and his fiancĂ©e (Scholar Woman--not pictured)  are planning their wedding on Facebook.  Not enough time and  brainspace to actually send out invitations.

And how 2008 is this -- I've just sent Scholar Woman a Facebook invitation to be my friend.

I'm still ridiculously excited.
