May 18, 2004:

Roddie Dumas Sr. pleaded not guilty on four federal drug and weapons charges. None were related to the mauling of his son, Roddie Dumas Jr., who died while visiting his father's home in April.

The father of an 8-year-old boy who was mauled to death by four Pit Bulls was charged June 7, 2004, with involuntary manslaughter.

The charge stems from an attack that killed Roddie Dumas, Jr. April 16. The boy was playing in his father’s backyard in west Charlotte on Brentwood Place when he was attacked and killed by his father’s four Pit Bulls.

Neighbors heard the child screaming and called 911, but police said the father, Roddie Dumas, Sr., stayed inside the home during the attack with his girlfriend. Police said it appears Dumas Sr. was high on marijuana at the time of the attack.

Dumas, Sr. is currently in federal custody on drugs and weapons charges.

A criminal background check on Dumas Sr. showed he has a conviction record including armed robbery and assault on a female. Police said Dumas Sr. is a gang member.

I just wanted to let you know that I ran across this page and read "YOUR OPINION" about my sons death on April 16, 2004, and I'd like to
know what steps would you have taken, if your son was killed the way mine was? or would you have done "ANYTHING"? I respect your opinion, I just don't agree with it.
