Eldo Bergman, on the Read by Grade Three mailing list, had this to say
Parents should never ask for a program; they should ask for repeated measures (annual assessment*, for example) of vocabulary, reading accuracy, reading rate, and reading comprehension, until the gap between the child and the grade level is gone. Forget the method; monitor the child's actual progress.
