See my paper posted on the internet in 1998 and updated in 2004 entitled "Autism - A Conditioned Resonse to Biochemical Toxicity?" which identifies the area V4 on the fusiform gyrus as the key to the vision of the autistic child and which also shows the neural network leading from this area to the behaviour of autists.
Curent studies using DTI and MRI have validated my hypothesis that this is the area in which the differences between normal eye contact and faces and the autist occurs. The paper was accepted on to the US Congress Research database in 2004.
