Draft Horse Classic Tickets Go On Sale May 1, 2005
Season tickets for this fall's Draft Horse Classic at the Nevada County Fairgrounds are now on sale. This year's Draft Horse Classic opens Thursday night, September 15th and runs through Sunday the 18th.The Classic has grown from an idea hatched around a kitchen table by horse lovers to the premier draft horse show in the western United States. The big horse event features Clydesdales, Belgians, Percherons, Shires, Suffolks, and American Cream breeds strutting their stuff for four days, entertaining enthusiastic audiences.
"In previous years the demand for tickets has posed a management problem for Nevada County Fairgrounds staff members," says Ed Scofield, Fairgrounds manager. "So, we have broken ordering into staggered categories to make it simpler for everyone."
Season tickets went on sale first, and only by mail order or fax order. Mail orders for all six performances should be sent to Draft Horse Classic Tickets, Nevada County Fairgrounds, P.O. Box 2687, Grass Valley CA 95945. Fax orders should be sent to 530-273-1146.
Advanced purchased reserved seats are $18 a performance, general admission seats are $15. Tickets purchased after September 14 are $3 additional.
On May 1 individual performance ticket orders will be accepted, but only by mail or fax. On June 1 phone orders will begin to be accepted, along with walk-ins at the Fairgrounds office. The Nevada County Fairgrounds is located at 11228 McCourtney Road in Grass Valley, 50 miles northeast of Sacramento, off Highway 49.
"The Saturday night show always sells out first," Scofield adds, urging those who want to see that performance to order early by mail or Fax. "The Thursday night opening performance is especially advantageous for Nevada County residents who want to avoid the weekend crush of out-of-town spectators."
Companion events at the Draft Horse Classic include the Western Trade Show, where cowboy clothes and accessories are sold; Art at the Classic, the horse and western art show which has grown to national prominence; and the Harvest Fair, displaying locally grown fruits and vegetables. These events will be open to the public at no charge.
Continuous western music and entertainment will spread across the Fairgrounds between draft horse performances, and Treat Street will supply a host of tasty foods and drinks.
On Saturday afternoon, September 17th, A Taste of the Gold Country will present specialties from local restaurants and tastes of area wines. Admission to this separate event is $25 in advance, $30 at the door. To order Taste of the Gold Country tickets contact the Grass Valley Downtown Association at 530-272-8315.
For more information, or to order Draft Horse Classic tickets after June 1, call the Fairgrounds office at (530) 273-6217.
