I responded directly to the original post, but thought it bore repeating - that if we are willing to accept the "untouchables" or "lower" members of a society, then it upends the whole power structure. If we're willing to cut people slack for having behaviors or issues or whatever, then we've got to do the same for everyone. And that's not the way our society works. We have a huge contingent of people who want to cut everyone less slack, not more. And until we change that, then there is always going to be a marginalized group, even as the identity of that group rotates and shifts over time.
