« The 31st Meeting of The Skeptics' Circle | Main | John Allen Pickett, jr, 20, Alcohol-Related Death »

Thursday, March 30, 2006

As a Brown alum, I have to jump in for just a moment - the only two conservatives I knew of who had a hard time were two school newspaper columnists who regularly published their judgmental opinions under headings such as "The Loony Left".

But -- they were columnists for the school's newspaper, publishing their opinions. Doesn't exactly sound like persecution to me. And while there were always angry responses to the columns, generally provoked by the confrontational and judgmental tones used (no one likes being called a "slut" or a "loony") there were just as many responses chiding people for being overly sensitive or for not seeing the valid controversy behind the polemics.

I knew plenty of people who were active College Republicans and devout, conservative Christians, none of whom seemed to feel that the atmosphere favored liberals or discouraged their practicing of their ideology or beliefs.
