Neonatal Doc writes a blog about, well, newborn babies, sick or otherwise. In this post, Neonatal Doc: Inappropriate, he is writing about a very sick baby with a very poor prognosis. This line jumped out at me:
Sometimes the best we can do for a patient is not so good, but merely the least bad thing.
The thought is related to the previous post, reflecting on a post of Over My Med body!'s--yes, the aim for excellence and for good outcomes on everything and for everybody....and sometimes it just doesn't come out that way.
Providing, or being, the least bad thing is at least as honorable as the alternative...as long as you balance.
