The difference between the approach to diagnosis and treatment of dyslexia (and other learning disabilities) in the UK and the US often confuses me.
This time, it is a PhD candidate, Alexandra Davies, who has decided that Dylan Thomas was dyslexic.
Childlike writing and Dylan's fondness for spelling words backwards are being interpreted by Ms Davies as signs of his difficulty in handling language - said to be a classic characteristic of dyslexia.
In British terms, sounds like a load of rubbish to me.
Good catch, Liz. In my more cynical moments, I see diagnoses such as this one as one more example of how deeply Freud has penetrated into our views of each other: We search for some deep, dark, secret causes and motives. Ahhh well...onward through the fog.
