An anti-homeschooling law was passed in Hitler-era Germany, which never has been repealed. In fact, German authorities insist that
"you and your children are not living in isolation on some island but rather in an environment posing intra- and extracurricular situations where you'll have to accept that your world view will be curtailed." Mr. Kohler further explained that homeschooling could not be allowed as "children should not be encapsulated or kept apart from the outside world. In these cases, the parents' rights to personally educate their children would prevent the children from growing up to be responsible individuals within society."
Several families have been prosecuted.
Now Melissa Busekros, 15, who was being tutored at home after struggling with several subjects, has been forcibly removed from her family and placed in a psychiatric institution.
Evidently Melissa was in school fulltime up until the age of 15, when she began to struggle in Latin and math.
According to Tim Bueler
In the summer of 2005, when Melissa was 15, she was told she would have to repeat the seventh grade at the government school because she was failing math and Latin.
She had good grades in the rest of her classes, so her parents tutored her at home for those two subjects.
When the school officials found out they were angry and then expelled Melissa, so the family began to homeschool full time. However, the Youth Welfare office then took the family to court because they were homeschooling.
At the end of January, 2007, Melissa was forcibly removed from her parents' home and subjected to a psychiatric examination, then returned to her parents.
The psychiatrist declared that Melissa suffered from "school phobia" and "a one-year developmental delay.".
The state again forcibly removed Melissa from her parents' home and placed her in a psychiatric facility for "treatment." The family must also undergo evaluation for "parental fitness".
Evidently Melissa has been moved from the psychiatric facility to a foster-care home, and will be allowed weekly visits with her parents under government supervision.
I hope this young lady has reserves of mental toughness.
