The blog I am recommending you investigate is Chris Altiero's ABC Therapeutics Occupational Therapy Weblog. Below the fold, why I find the blog so interesting.
One of the most moving blog posts I've ever read is Dick Dalton's The Fleecing of the Autism Community:
These frauds sell crap, preying on the concern of parents for their children. They guilt us by saying, “Wouldn’t you do anything to help your child?” When it doesn’t work, we are told we didn’t do it right which is shorthand for “we didn’t spend enough money.” I’ve seen the shit come and go. And everyone has something to offer…for a price. No one is giving this stuff away. They are impoverishing an entire class of people.
Our family has been fortunate: we haven't spent money we didn't have for "therapies" that were unproven. We didn't alway find what JG needed, in the intensity she needed, but on the whole, not too much time wasted, not too much beating around in the bushes, and we didn't spend money we couldn't afford. Other families have not been so fortunate, which is why I post more about bad ideas and unproven treatments than success stories.
I ran across Chris Alterio's blog today, and found his post on the Wilbager approach. At one point in JG's initial remediation, "body brushing" and/or the Wilbager Protocol was recommended as a royal road to enabling this bright, verbal little girl to read. I declined -- I didn't see how it would help, given my child's history--and the recommender was quite miffed.
Chris concludes his post on the Wilbager technique by asking:
Most importantly, have we served the public interest by creating a 'demand' for a service that we have never supported with research and that we no longer even train therapists in?

Thanks for this O.T. link. Am passing it on to a young person considering entering the profession who may find it to be of interest.
