Thanks to my friend Karoli at odd time signatures, I learned something I didn't know: if your cell phone is stolen, you are liable for all calls made after the theft, and the cell phone carriers can be quite difficult to deal with.
I'm more worried about Jumper Girl in the college setting being a theft victim.
David Bach has a 10 point plan to follow if your phone is stolen and you are hit with a large bill from the thieves using your phone.
What you write is true. My son had his cell phone stolen just last week-end. He had spent the night at a friend's house and they had gone over to someone else's house. He had his cell phone in his backpack and left it in a bedroom. Someone apparently went through his backpack. He originally thought that he had lost it, but didn't tell me about it until yesterday.
When I called our cell phone carrier, the woman on the line said that I would not be liable for phone calls for that day, but would be for calls made from the day the phone was stolen.
