Oh, bother. My own school just got blasted on this issue in a well known gossip rag - um, I mean newspaper. It's ridiculous in so many ways that I don't even know where to start.

This is basically true, but I don't know if it's quite as positive as Megan makes out. Essentially what happens is very wealthy people find ways to wrangle their kids into private schools and get reimbursed from the school board (i.e., taxes). A typical parent wouldn't have the resources to pay out the $40,000 or so and wait to get reimbursed (not to mention, the resources to hire the lawyer and educational experts to get them in).
