Further thought: when I started running into problems due to the fact that I could not coast anymore, I panicked. Maybe I wasn't as smart as I had thought?

As an experiment, during a short cycle at the University of North Carolina, I told myself that I wasn't smart, that the other people around me were smarter, and that I consequently had to work harder. Guess what? A 4.0 average.

Too bad I ran into therapists who thought it would be damaging to my self-esteem if I kept up this point of view.
