More news from the UK and the US on the collapse of the Dore program that purported to "cure" dyslexia and ADHD:
- DoreUK homepage announces that "Insolvency Practitioners have been appointed".
- Holford Watch on further developments in the UK
- Gimpy's complete list of Dore posts (UK centric, for the most part) and a list of media responses in the UK.
- BrainDuck's advice to DoreUK clients who are out lots of money.
- LeftBrain/RightBrain: Dore flogged as a treatment for autism; in receivership
- PodBlack: Parents Speak Out
I gather from reading the US Dore Forum that some of the DoreUS parents have been financing their children's Dore treatment using Care Credit Patient Financing, whose tagline is: "Get what you want, when you want it". Evidently Care Credit has a dispute resolution form.
From the DoreTalk UK message board, a message from Wynford Dore, dated May 28, 2008
A massive thank you for all the overwhelming and humbling messages of help, support and understanding we have received. You know that I understand just how much this means to a family and the thought that it might not be available is unthinkable. Not that I needed any more encouragement, but your messages have certainly helped me be even more determined that we find a way of helping you continue and complete the programme.
Details of who the Administrators are will be posted on the website today should you need to contact them - but if at all possible use the FAQs and other sources of information as the number of queries we are getting at the moment are just impossible to deal with on an individual basis. We are focusing our resources on getting information to those who were booked to come into the centres in the next few days. As you know, the centres are currently not operating and we are doing our utmost to reach everyone to minimize any inconvenience.
From now on the Administrators are going through the due legal process but I must point out that one of their important priorities is to explore ways in which the service can continue. They are very understanding and I am working closely with them examining all of the possible solutions and I am optimistic that we will have some more news to share with you very soon.
Meanwhile our Medical Research and IT Development Team have been working tirelessly to find ways to help you in the short term. Yesterday we launched a very useful piece of software called “My Dore”. We had, fortunately, been working on it for some time and we have decided to release it quickly with some enhancements to help with the current circumstances. As you come close to the time of your next appointment you will be contacted with access details for My Dore. It will show you which exercises you should be doing and video clips of how to use them. If necessary it will also give you some more exercises to continue the stimulation of the cerebellum. Normally this data would be determined from the posturography and OMT tests but as this is not possible we have made a scientific calculation to determine the trend in development. This has been launched as a short term measure whilst other arrangements are made - so please use it when you are contacted and don’t stop the programme! And to reiterate what many of you have already told the odd cynic that appears on the Forum - No, I have not benefitted financially from doing this at all - I have been happy to subsidise everyone who has gone through the programme over the last few years, the cards, letters and emails I get are more than enough thanks for doing it. In fact what is happening now is making me consider and plan ways in which this will reach far more people, hopefully at even lower cost in the coming years. I am developing and presenting plans to the Administrators for their comments.
There have been many ideas and offers of help, head teachers asking if the equipment can be installed in their schools, a doctor phoned me at the weekend offering to put equipment in his medical centre, many parents have offered to put the equipment in their home - so many are absolutely determined that this will not just remain accessible, but be more accessible to larger numbers. Please keep these suggestions coming in. As soon as the time is right we will be coming back to each and every one of you to explore if and how this can go forward.
Whilst this disruption has been in many ways and to many people tragic I am very optimistic that there will be a way forward and we will share all the news with you as quickly as we can get it on to Dore Talk and the web site.
What keeps all of our wonderful team here focused is the fact that the pain we are going through for the short term is not to be compared with the pain felt by so many who suffer with learning difficulties who, without this help, are at risk of never getting relief from it. We remain absolutely resolute to continue providing the programme.
Thanks again for your understanding and support.
Wynford
