Back in November, Age of Autism published news that Change.org was hiring an autism blogger. (Note: I wish I'd taken a screenshot -- they published a home phone number for one of Change.org's founders. It's gone now.) At the time, I gave them some advice.
According to Kevin Leitch:
I doubt very much if Change.org were quite prepared for the utter deluge of applications that hit them. I have it on good authority that applications ran into the thousands and has been by far the biggest launch Change.org have held.
Change.org has announced who will fill the position: Kristina Chew and Dora Raymaker. From Change.org:
Kristina is a Classics professor in Jersey City, New Jersey, a blogger (formerly at AutismVox), a translator (of Virgil), and an advocate every day for her son, Charlie.
Dora is committed to improving quality of life for individuals on the autistic spectrum--including herself!
Back to Kev:
This makes Change.org the very first non-autie run political (with a small p) organisation in the US to appoint an autistic person to talk about autism. Think about that. Change.org beat ASA, Autism Speaks etc to appoint an autistic person to express an autistic viewpoint.
So -- bookmark http://autism.change.org/
. The site won't be fully live until Jan 7, but there are a few posts up. Go and leave a welcome greeting!
