A Confusing Comment from the President of the Autism Society?

November 29, 2012 was a historic day in autism.  For the first time ever,  autistic individuals were included in Congressional hearings.  I will have more on that in another post, but as I watched the hearings, one member of the second panel,  Scott Badesch, the president and chief operating officer of the Autism Society, said something I found odd about the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC) . The odd comment starts at 3:18:00.

In the clip, at 3:18:00 to 3:18:18,

Mr. Badesch said that the IACC doesn't coordinate;  had not been in touch with his organization; and implied that the IACC hadn't reached out to the other organizations represented on the panel, SafeMinds, ASAN, and GRASP. That statement seems a bit counterfactual to me, as the following are IACC public members:

• James Ball,  Chair of the National Board of the Autism Society of America, joined IACC in 2012 
• Geraldine Dawson, Chief Science Officer, Autism Speaks; joined IACC in 2010
• Lynn Redwood, founding member of SafeMinds, joined IACC in  2007
• Scott Michael Robertson, co-founder of ASAN, joined IACC in 2012

So I am not sure why Badesch feels that IACC doesn't coordinate with organizations.

Ari Ne'eman was on the IACC from 2010-2012. Lee Grossman of the Autism Society was on the IACC when I was attending meetings, so at least from 2008-2010, if not longer.
