International Bacccalaureate Conspiracy!

I love a good conspiracy theory. So follow me here. The International Baccalureate (IB) program is actually a part of a grand plan to make American citizens mindless, Christ-less, global sheep.

To see the context for the following information, please read Brainwashing in America. It shows the significance of Global Vision which is mentioned below. The aim of global education, whether marketed and implemented through IBO, International Schools, UNESCO, or Robert Muller, is to mold global citizens. These servants of the global community, must stand so firm in their new ideology and global world view that any argument against their ideology -- no matter how factual and rational -- will be met with scorn and condescension.

While the IBO curriculum indoctrinates all participating students with the global beliefs and values of a world citizen, it also helps choose the leaders of the 21st century. Notice that only those who are considered will be admitted into the more elite programs. In other words, only a select group of adaptable and compliant students are admitted to some of the IB schools. So much for social equity and equal opportunity!

Are We Polarized?

Kieran, at Crooked Timber, is talking about--oh, culture wars, polarization, disappearance of concensus/the center--that has been on my mind. It is the issue in the Westminster School District's problems.

Noel is pushing the attractive idea that polarization feeds on and reinforces itself. (Attractive from the point of view of elegant social mechanisms, I mean.) And Kevin can’t see a way to break the cycle. Red and Blue America is the latest version of the Culture Wars thesis. However, while it’s clear that the chattering classes — at least their representatives in the media — have become more polarized over time, I’m not sure I believe that everyone else has.

My main evidence for this comes from a 1996 paper by Paul DiMaggio, Bethany Bryson and John Evans called “Have Americans’ social attitudes become more polarized?”

I started at Kelley's (who is thankfully feeling quite well, thank you), who sent me to Accidental Verbosity, who sent me to Misty.

The long list of books follows. Why have I read so many? Wonderful academic program in high school--a boarding school, no TV, the heyday (is that how you spell that?) of American Conservatory Theater which we patronized AND read the play afterwards, lots of mountaineering expeditions--good time to read the Russians and more challenging narratives like the Illiad--a love of reading.

Product Review Kagome Juices

I found a bottle of Kagome Carrot Ginger Zinger at...somewhere. There used to be a product, Covent Garden Soups , a line of fresh refrigerated soups. I was particularly fond of their carrot and ginger. They are out of business in the US, so when I saw the Kagome juice line, I thought maybe my carrot-ginger jones was going to be met.

It's ok, it just isn't carroty or gingery enough, I think because it is made from concentrates.

If I find this product I'll give it a try. This looks like a pretty good home recipe.

Product Review Dattilo Crema Rosa

The other sauce we tried was from Dattilo's, which started out as a restaurant in Whittier. We tried the Crema Rosa, which tasted exactly like a store brand version of tomato soup made with cream. Yuck. It's $8.00 from the website.

Product Review Tulocay's Sauce

Al and I tried two new pasta sauces last week.

Tulocay has a beautiful website. Too bad the tomato, wild mushroom savory sauce with merlot tasted like medicine--too much rosemary, I think. It was almost inedible. It is also expensive--more than $5.00/25 oz. bottle, I think.

Mission to Convert The Devil Worshipers Buddhists

I was looking for a Buddhist prayer, the text of which I couldn't remember. So I asked Google "Dalai Lama's prayer"--because I believed it was his--and came across this:
